Girl Wonder to the Rescue by PANattheDisco Girl Wonder to the Rescue by PANattheDisco
I've loved Robin's outfit and color-scheme since I was a kid. It's one of those outfits I've always wanted to make. When I started reading the Robin comics earlier this year, I decided to finally make a Robin costume.

I based my costume on the third and fourth Robins. Robin III is Tim Drake and Robin IV is Stephanie Brown. Yes, there was a girl wonder! Her time as Robin was unfortunately short, but she existed and she was awesome! I never really decided whether I wanted to make Tim Drake or Stephanie Brown, so I merged the two. I love them both~ I borrowed more from Steph, and I'd be cosplaying Steph if I could pull off blond hair. The art in the comics is really inconsistent (sometimes on the same page!), so I had a lot of freedom to play with the design.

I made every part of this costume except for the boots (and when I say I made everything, I really do mean *everything*), and I patterned the entire costume from scratch. This costume took me over two months to figure out and make, but it was totally worth it in the end. I'm really proud of it, and being able to run around as the Girl Wonder is like a dream come true! X3

A big thanks to ~Elemental-Sight for the sweet photo shoot! This is my favourite photo from the set. My friend Becky and I joke that I was channelling my inner Chris O'Donnell. XD;;

If you're interested, photos of my DCU-related costumes can be found here. :3

Very awesome job!  That photo is very cool!  I want to do some action shots with my Superman costume like that.  I totally agree with songofafreeheart in that your cape is really well done!  I hand-sewed my cape, so I know how much time it takes to get it right.

Thank you so much for this wonderful comment! ♥

I checked out your Superman costume. It looks awesome! (And you hand-sewed your cape? That takes some serious patience and dedication. Rock on! )

You're very welcome, and thank you for the awesome comment.  I tried to have someone else make a cape for me, but it didn't turn out the way I wanted.  I didn't have a sewing machine to use, and really wanted an awesome cape worthy of the costume, so I guess pure determination got me through.

It's a sign of a well-made cape when you can get some great action out of it in photos.

Thank you! I spent ages on it, so it's nice to hear that that hard work is evident in photos. :D

It really shows. This is one of the best capes I've seen. Even more so since it's double sided! Most people I've seen can't get get that quite right.

What a GREAT costume and shoot! I'm jealous, haha! You really give off the vibe of Tim.

I've always wanted to do a feminine version of the Jason Todd Robin, but I was never good at sewing.

Seriously though. The pose and the HUGE cape kick so much ass!

I was thinking of buying a pre-made costume in stores and then altering it from there, but I;m horrified of screwing up. xD

Aw, thank you!

Unfortunately, I don't take commissions. I'm not a trained seamstress, and in any event, I'm working so I don't have the free time I'd need. In case it helps you for reference, my Robin costume took me just over two months and cost ~$300 in materials. Thank you for the interest though! I'm sorry I can't help you!

I hope your daughter gets to dress up as Robin! We need more Girl Wonders out there! ;3

Do you have a pattern or something? I love it! :jawdrop: Actually, I'd love to be able to make my own. And how did you do the mask?

I don't have a pattern. Well, I have some pieces of paper somewhere in my basement, but I don't think they're any use to anyone but me. :3;;;

As for the mask, I just answered this question in my profile, so I'll copy and paste my answer below. :3

First, I experimented with paper until I got a mask pattern that I liked the look of and that fit well.

Then I used heat-and-bond to glue the green spandex from my costume and black felt together. I traced the mask pattern I made on this new spandex/felt and then carefully cut it out.

I hope this helps! :D

You're very welcome! My shyness kept me from properly "fangirling" over your costume in person. ^_^;;

And the custom was my pleasure! ^_^ I'm always a little worried with how self portraits will turn out, so I'm really glad you like it!

Nice!!! That is an excellent Robin costume.

And the Chris O'Donnell joke is funny. Next time do one with your mouth hanging open cuz its almost like he does that for everry picture as Robin. xD
